About
Hello — I'm Jess, and I bake bread in a small kitchen near Clapham Common.

Hello. I'm Jess. I live near Clapham Common in South London, and a few years ago a jar of flour and water quietly took over my life.
The Clapham Crumb started as a sourdough diary on Instagram — crust reveals, crumb shots, and honest notes about what went wrong that week. This site is the longer-form version: the recipes I've tested until they behave, the diary entries behind the photos, and the kit I'd actually recommend.
what you'll find here
- Recipes — sourdough-first, written for a normal home oven and supermarket flour. No stand-mixer-only steps.
- The diary — experiments, failures and small victories, written up as I go.
- The kit — one partner brand, clearly marked, and a plain list of what's on the counter.
a few things I believe about bread
- Your starter is more forgiving than the internet says it is.
- Scales beat cups, every time.
- A "failed" loaf with butter is still better than most shop bread.
- The best bake is the one you'll actually make on a Tuesday evening.
